Each beer is perfect for a variety of occasions, from everyday dinners to special occasions. The Harpoon process of making beer involves using a combination of malted barley, wheat, and hops to give the beer its unique flavor. The hops used in the Harpoon process are sourced from the Hallertau region of Germany, which is renowned for its quality hops. The wheat used in the Harpoon process comes from the United Kingdom, and the barley used is sourced from North America. The combination of these three ingredients gives UFO White its unique flavor and color. Harpoon is a beer brewed by Harpoon Brewery, a privately-owned business located in Boston, Massachusetts. The company was founded in 1986 by three friends: Rich Doyle, Dan Kenary, and George Ligeti, who originally formed the company as a way to share the flavors of beer they brewed on their own time. Since then, the company has grown to become the 16th largest craft brewery in the United States, producing over 129,000 barrels of beer each year. The owners of Harpoon Brewery are still the same three friends who started the business: Rich Doyle, Dan Kenary, and George Ligeti. The company has also undergone some major changes in recent years, including the acquisition of Clown Shoes Beer in 2018, a craft brewery also located in Massachusetts. The ownership and management of Harpoon remain firmly rooted in Massachusetts, as there is no outside board or ownership of the brewery. IPA is a specific style of beer that was developed in the late 1700s by British brewers. It is characterized by a distinctive hop aroma and flavor, along with an elevated bitterness level and higher alcohol content. UFO, on the other hand, is a family of beers offered by the Harpoon Brewery in Boston, MA. These beers usually have fruity and citrus flavors, with a lighter body and a lesser amount of hops. They are primarily in the American Wheat style, but some of the beers also include touches of English and Belgian specialty brewers. Overall, UFO beers can generally be classified as wheat beers rather than IPAs. Hefeweizen is a traditional German wheat beer. It is usually made with a mixture of wheat and barley malts, which gives it its signature cloudy appearance from suspended proteins and yeast. Hefeweizen is typically pale in color and has a hint of citrus, cloves and bananas from the types of yeast used during fermentation. Hefeweizen beers are also typically “unfiltered,” meaning that the beer has no dry hopping or additional carbonation, which is why the sediment from the yeast appears at the bottom of the glass. Hefeweizen is a light and easy-drinking beer, with an ABV (alcohol by volume) of about 5-6%. It pairs well with lighter foods like salads, fish, and light pastas. UFO White beer is a Belgian style witbier brewed by Harpoon Brewery. These 12 oz cans are available in 6-packs to pick up at your local grocery or liquor store.Bottle contains 160 calories, 12 grams of carbohydrates, and 4.8% alcohol by volume (ABV). Don’t get us wrong though, the burst of flavor is followed by the typical malt that craft beer lovers know so well. Matt and Jayson were shocked at how profound the orange and lemon zest were in the taste of such a low-cal beer. The year-round pale ale is only 100 calories (hint the name “The One-y”), and according to Matt you could have six and call it a meal! For a beer so light on the calories, the One-y IPA packs a lot of fruity flavors. But, this newly released IPA is so much sweeter. Oskar Blues Brewery is stationed in Colorado and widely known for their craft-canned Dale’s Pale Ale. This India Pale Ale has traveled cross-country to sit on our desks today.
